I will describe the main Taunus TC1 mechanics components. Its impossible to talk about everything here, but, i hope that you will enjoy this page.

With the new TC1 Models, Ford leaves front wheel drives cars. Now, power is send to back wheels throught transmission tube and rigid rear axle. Gear Boxes are classical types, with 4 forward synchronised gears and one backward. ('A' and 'B' gear box models differs in the size of secondary axle). These gear boxes are very easy to use, and it seems that there is nothing linked to the gear selector. Automatic gear box is also available for at least 1600 Models, with 6 positions selector (P, R, N, D, 2, 1).
Transmission tube is build in one part on 1300 models, and 2 parts on 1600 and 2000 models. Cardans cannot be repaired. Rear axle is rigid. 'A' types are coming with 1300 & 1600 models, and "B' types are coming with 2000 models. Be carefull, the 'A' type for 1600 GT models differs, because of spécial satellite alloy. Then, there is 5 different rear axle boxes, with special wheel axle for Station Wagon models. ![]() Choosing a rigid rear axle decrease the road quality of the new taunus. This classic and chip concept shows rapidly its limits. On a bad road, the TC1 needs a coolest drive. |

There is tow models of exhaust collectors on 4 cylinders engines: - build in one part (see right bellow) - build with 2 'Y' (see left) ![]() This There is a difference for 1600 GT Models (2A) The 3A exhaust line is for V6 models (there is only one exit on the back of the car). ![]() |

La direction est de type à crémaillère, avec colonne de direction 'sécurité' et un arbre intermédiaire avec cardan et flector. Le nombre de tours du volant de butée à butée est de 3,7. Le diamètre de braquage est de 10,7 m. Les suspensions avant sont à roues indépendantes, ressorts hélicoïdaux et amortisseurs téléscopiques à double effet agissant sur les bras inférieurs simples, bras oscillants supérieurs du type triangle, barre stabilisatrice transversale (sauf modèles 1300). Cette barre différe selon le modèle (1600 GT , 2000, Break 2000). Les amortisseurs ont des réglages différents selon le modèle: standard ou renforcés. A l'arrière, suspensions par ressorts hélicoïdaux montés sur bras oscillants inférieurs et amortisseurs télescopiques à double effet fixés obliquement entre le pont et la caisse. The back springs differs with the car model.
Le freinage est hydraulique assisté, à disques à l'avant et à tambour à l'arrière. Le frein à main agit sur les roues arrières. Les types de plaquettes à employer et les dimensions des freins à tambour sont de deux types , toujours selon le modèle de Taunus (1300 & 1600 ou 1600GT & 2000). |
